News Celebrating Hull through Time-Lapse

Hull was the UK City of Culture in 2017 and with such a prestigious title came a chance to celebrate, regenerate and redevelop the city. As the East Yorkshire port, Kingston-on-Hull received the accolade awarded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, we were privileged to document numerous projects that ran across the city.

Time-lapsing the City of Culture  

We had the pleasure of providing time-lapse capture for a wide range of public realm improvements across the city to celebrate its year as UK City of Culture. This saw us install five camera systems at key locations across the city, documenting regeneration, renovation of streets and town squares and infrastructural works for local bodies and contractors such as Eurovia Contracting North.

Key projects were the complete transformation of the famous Humber Street into Britain’s ’best street’ and the build of the Hull Paragon Interchange – a transport interchange providing rail, bus and coach services in the city centre. To celebrate all these works, we produced a final edit to showcase the numerous projects we have captured across the city.

Further time-lapsing for the UK City of Culture

Our time-lapse work also documented artistic additions to the city for Hull City Council, such as the installations of the ceramic Weeping Window poppies at Hull Maritime Museum, a 28-tonne wind turbine in Queen Victoria Square, and Solar Gate a £310,000 bespoke timepiece sculpture, in Queen’s Gardens.
Throughout these numerous transformations, we provided edits to help the local authority to share progress across various social media platforms. We also produced a final edit to showcase the Queens Garden, Solar Gate project.

Capturing Hull Venue

The impressive contemporary venue Bonus Arena was part of Hull’s legacy from its year as the City of Culture. We were privileged to document the large-scale £36 million project. We captured as the state-of-the-art Hull Venue emerged from a brownfield site in the heart of Hull’s city centre. Two of our camera systems reported for two years during the construction of this important cultural landmark. We provided documentation for each phase of the build, from groundwork through to when the dramatic gold and silver-clad facade was complete.

Our time-lapse photography was used by the Hull City Council, the main contractor BAM as well as the arena itself to publicise the significant project. Once complete, the images and footage were expertly pieced together by our in-house team of editors to create a stunning short time-lapse video showcasing the build of this lasting legacy.
