News Alun Griffiths- Time Lapse Systems’ Drone Footage used by the BBC and ITV

Sea defences, coastal protection and river works are frequently reported in the media as a critical issue. Alun Griffiths asked us to capture a recent project comprising inland flood protection and defence work in Newport, Wales. At Time-Lapse Systems we offer a range of other services alongside our time-lapse and site-monitoring photography. We are diverse specialists in aerial, film, web and 360 capture. The Welsh government’s commitment to the flood defence scheme in Newport was reported on BBC News and on ITV in April 2023. Our drone footage was featured to show recent construction work by main contactor, Alun Griffiths for Natural Resources Wales (NRW), a new flood defence scheme along the River Usk at Liswerry.

The project will look to protect over 2,000 properties, leisure spaces, amenities and local infrastructure, such as the A48, Newport International Sports Village, Newport Stadium and Dragon Park from the risk of a flood. Contactors will be responsible for raising existing earth embankments, creating new flood walls, a highway and flood gate. This £21 million scheme will also comprise three new urban forests planted around Coronation Park to mitigate the loss of shrubs and trees in the construction process.

Our engineers and certified drone pilots, Paul and Josh, travelled down to Newport to install four of our bespoke time-lapse cameras, which will capture the full sheet wall being constructed. They also filmed the site using drones, which has since gained attention in the media.

Our team of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) certified drone pilots used the highest specification drones to get our wonderful footage.  Drones offer a fantastic way to film a site from a height that other cameras could not reach, giving a contextual view of the landscape. Many of our clients incorporate drone footage within their time-lapse films to add impact and as a tool to show the scale of their projects against the local surroundings.
