News BHWT ‘Project Vicky’ revealed in time-lapse video

1 January 2024 Daniel Curtis

Our time-lapse video for the British Hen Welfare Trust – the country’s leading hen rehoming charity, captures the build of its new facility dedicated to the welfare of ex-battery hens.

Work began on 15 April 2019 on the new Hen Welfare, Education and Visitor Centre and was completed by July 2020. Funded solely by donations, the building is nicknamed “Project Vicky” after one of the first hens the owner Jane Howorth rehomed.  The 250m2 contemporary structure is located just metres from Hen Central, the charity’s headquarters at Rose Ash, North Devon. The building incorporates a state-of-the-art rehoming centre, a fully-equipped veterinary clinic, an educational space, and offices.

This hen welfare and education centre is the first of its kind, so we were honoured to be involved. We pre-planned the location of our camera system to ensure optimum capture of the project build. Our skilled engineers set up the system, so it was carefully fixed onto the side of the nearby church without compromising the historic building. We captured the whole development from the groundwork to the timber frame emerging into a contemporary structure.

As with all projects we undertake, we provided a live viewing platform to show images of the construction project in real-time. BHWT took up the option of embedding this onto their website, allowing them to instantly share new developments with their supporters and donors on-line. This online interaction was incredibly important for ‘Project Vicky’, as the public had generously fully funded the expansion. The viewing portal meant that anyone could see how this unique concept was developing, daily if they wished.

Now construction is complete, we are currently editing the 16-month capture into a final, fully post-produced video that documents the full build process.

Time-Lapse Systems are proud to have been involved in this project, which we hope that plenty of chickens will benefit from both now and long into the future.
