News Serpentine Pavillion 2025

23 June 2025 Holly Eckersley

We are proud to have captured the build of the Serpentine Pavilion 2025, continuing a five-year relationship with this prestigious annual architectural commission. This marks our fifth consecutive year providing time-lapse documentation for the construction of the Pavilion, held at Kensington Gardens in London and commissioned by the Serpentine Galleries.

Each year, a different architect or architectural collective is selected to design a temporary structure that stands for several months in the summer, forming a space for public gatherings, talks, and events. Since its inception in 2000, the Pavilion has become a key feature of London’s architectural and cultural landscape.

The Serpentine Pavilion 2025: Construction Overview

The Serpentine Pavilion 2025 was designed by Marina Tabassum, continuing the Gallery’s tradition of commissioning internationally recognised talent. Construction began in early spring and concluded in time for the public opening in June.

As in previous years, our brief was to capture the full lifecycle of the Pavilion’s construction- from initial groundwork and structural assembly to the final architectural detailing. Our aim is always to deliver high-quality visual documentation that faithfully reflects the process in its entirety.

Technical Setup and Monitoring

For this project, we installed our high-resolution time-lapse camera systems which were strategically positioned to ensure comprehensive coverage. Our systems captured thousands of high-resolution images over the course of the build. Our cameras are designed to withstand outdoor conditions over long periods, and we monitor all systems remotely throughout each project. This allows us to respond immediately to any on-site changes or environmental factors that might impact our setup.

In addition to time-lapse photography, we provided site monitoring capabilities that allowed the client and stakeholders to securely view live progress through our dedicated viewing platform. This feature is particularly valued by teams coordinating remotely, as it enables near real-time oversight of progress and site logistics.

Editing and Post-Production

Once construction was complete, our in-house editors began work on producing the final time-lapse sequence. The editing process is a key stage in all our projects and involves selecting the most effective footage, colour grading, and ensuring smooth, coherent transitions across the build period. As with previous years, our aim was to produce a concise but complete visual summary that highlights the architectural evolution of the structure, the technical complexity of the build, and the transformation of the site over time.

The final sequence is delivered in multiple formats for use in press materials, social media, web platforms, and event documentation. It remains an effective visual record for both the Serpentine team and the wider audience following the Pavilion’s development.

Our Work for the Serpentine

We are proud to have been entrusted again to capture the build of this year’s Serpentine Pavilion. Each Pavilion presents a new set of technical and logistical challenges due to the differing design approaches and construction methods involved. Our experience working across these variations has enabled us to deliver consistent and high-quality results year after year.

A Look Back at Five Years of Serpentine Pavilions

Having documented five consecutive Serpentine Pavilions, we have seen a wide variety of architectural styles and materials employed. Each structure has brought its own character and challenges. From complex steel frameworks and innovative roof designs to intricate timber assemblies and prefabricated components, each Pavilion has been unique in design and execution.

What remains constant is the temporary nature of the structure- a crucial aspect that demands efficient construction and precise scheduling. Our time-lapse documentation has provided a reliable visual archive of this process, supporting press coverage, promotional campaigns, and internal records.
