Time-Lapse Systems has had the privilege of collaborating extensively with Alton Towers Resort, capturing the evolution of some of its most iconic attractions and events. Through meticulous time-lapse photography and filming, we’ve documented the creation and transformation of rides, as well as special events, providing a dynamic visual history of the park’s developments. We have worked on many, many attractions at the towers including documenting the build of rides at David Walliams Land, Santa Sleepover events, waterpark events amongst many others.
Time-Lapsing Nemesis Reborn
In 1994, Alton Towers introduced Nemesis, Europe’s first inverted rollercoaster, captivating thrill-seekers with its intense design. After years of operation, the ride underwent a significant transformation, emerging as Nemesis Reborn. Our team was entrusted with documenting this revitalisation. Over 18 months, we captured the meticulous process of deconstructing the original structure and the subsequent construction of the revamped ride. The updated attraction now features advanced audio-visual elements and redesigned aesthetics, enhancing the overall experience while preserving the essence of the original ride.

Time-Lapsing the Build of The Smiler
The Smiler, introduced in 2013, set records as the world’s first 14-inversion rollercoaster. Our time-lapse documentation captured the intricate assembly of this complex structure. From laying the foundation to the installation of its twisted tracks, our footage showcases the engineering prowess required to bring this ambitious project to fruition. The Smiler’s construction presented unique challenges, all meticulously recorded, providing insight into the dedication and precision involved in creating such a groundbreaking attraction.

Time-Lapsing the Build of Th13teen
Th13teen, unveiled in 2010, is renowned as the world’s first free-fall drop rollercoaster. Our cameras documented the development of this ride, capturing the construction of its innovative track and the integration of its unique drop mechanism. The time-lapse footage illustrates the seamless blend of traditional rollercoaster elements with cutting-edge technology, resulting in a ride that offers both thrills and surprises.

Filming Celebrity Launch Nights
Alton Towers has hosted numerous celebrity events, and we’ve had the opportunity to film several of these high-profile occasions. Notably, we documented the launch event featuring the Grammy Award-winning artist Pink, who performed to a crowd of 28,000 attendees. Our coverage encompassed the construction of the stage, the electrifying performance, and the subsequent deconstruction, capturing the event’s energy and scale.
Time-Lapsing Concerts at Alton Towers
Beyond individual performances, Alton Towers has been a venue for large-scale concerts and events. Our time-lapse services have been employed to document these occasions, capturing the transformation of the park’s spaces into concert venues and the dynamic interactions of crowds. This footage not only serves as a promotional tool but also as a historical record of the park’s versatility in hosting diverse entertainment events.

The latest addition to Alton Towers, Toxicator, is set to open on March 15, 2025. This Huss Suspended Top Spin ride is the first of its kind in the UK, featuring back-to-back seating and intense spin patterns. Elevated above ground level, it offers spectators a unique view of the ride experience from below. Our team has been on-site, capturing the construction process from the initial groundwork to the final testing phases.
