News Time-lapsing Stadium Construction

1 January 2024 Daniel Curtis

Stadiums, sports venues, and facilities are often large, complex builds. Professional time-lapse can effectively capture the construction of such vast structures and challenging projects.

Time-Lapse Systems have been involved with many projects relating to the construction, improvement, and redevelopment of stadia. We’ve had the privilege of installing time-lapse camera systems and capturing at some rather impressive sports venues, football clubs, and rugby grounds including Arsenal, Wimbledon, and for the Saracens and Leicester Tigers.

Football Stadiums

Commissioned by UEFA we’ve installed and captured works from multiple camera systems at Arsenal’s home ground of Emirates Stadium in North London. Due to the sheer size and scale of the venue, we needed a variety of angles, so we used a mixture of lenses in locations all over the stadium.

At Vicarage Road, home to Watford FC, we captured a 36-week period of construction to report the build of the Sir Elton John Stand. Our site monitoring services were also used to provide ‘live’ access to developments as they were in progress.

Such remote monitoring capabilities are very useful for architects, project managers, and construction teams needing to track work from off-site locations. This capability also has the further benefit of allowing the public and fans to track how stadia and grounds are being improved, generating interest in work and the clubs.

Rugby Clubs

We have also documented the £23 million redevelopment project at Saracens RFC, StoneX Stadium in Hendon, London for Rayner Rowen Construction. We have captured the demolition of the existing West Stand and the construction of a new fully accessible, weatherproof facility for 3000 spectators as well as other new facilities.

For Leicester Tigers, we also documented another regeneration scheme, as the rugby club transforms the 1.7 acre former Granby Hall site into a large £22m hotel complex and multi-storey car park stadium side.

Other Sports Venues

We’ve worked across a range of sports grounds and venues to capture full construction projects as well as new additions. At Wimbledon, our camera systems documented the construction of the roof at No. 1 Court. Using our remote monitoring capabilities our skilled in-house editors adjusted capturing rates and camera settings throughout to ensure the best documentation of the complex and technically challenging build. Wimbledon utilised time-lapse photography throughout the project to keep fans up to date with progress via social media platforms. Our experienced editors also produced a time-lapse video that revealed the full construction of the innovative roof at No. 1 Court and this was used to showcase the engineering feat across the press and social media.

Wimbledon Court No 1 roof

We’ve also captured the complete construction of the Bonus Arena, Hull, which is regularly used for sporting events such as the Harlem Globetrotters. With dual-camera system capture, we reported from groundworks through to completion and our in-house editors have produced a short time-lapse video to showcase the process.

In Glasgow, our engineers assessed and installed camera systems to report on the build of a swimming pool for the Commonwealth Games. The footage was edited by our experienced team into a finished time-lapse video to document and promote the project.

We’ve also captured as stands were built at St Andrew’s Golf course. Whilst our camera systems have been installed at Canterbury Cricket Ground and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Village. We’ve even been privileged to cover the ATP Masters tennis at the Royal Albert Hall, documenting the construction of the event space within the iconic building.

Our work visually illustrates the level of work undertaken in the construction, improvement, and redevelopment of stadia, sports events, and grounds.

We, at Time-Lapse Systems, look forward to continuing our work with such prestigious clubs, stadium builds, and venue redevelopments. Please get in touch if you would like further information or are interested in capturing such a project.
