News Site monitoring: the other side to time-lapse photography

15 April 2015 Daniel Curtis

A fully post-produced time-lapse video is a great tool to market your brand or business, but the finished edit is not the only benefit of remote capture photography.

Time-lapse is a fantastic way to see changes that are simply not visible in real time. Exceptionally popular in the construction industry, this form of photography is perfect for highlighting small changes over time by ‘speeding’ them up into a concise and attractive video.

Examples of edits produced by Time-Lapse Systems are available to view below and in the Our Work section.

To achieve results as good as these, one or multiple custom camera systems must be created and installed safely and securely to capture construction work as it takes place. (They are also perfect for large events and interior shop fit-outs.)

There are a number of variables that need to be considered at this stage, including – choice of camera and lens; intervalometer for consistent capture; access to a wireless network for remote diagnostics; settings changes and a power source.

With this in mind, as you can imagine off-the-shelf or ‘D.I.Y’ solutions are really not fit for purpose. So many things can go wrong that having a way to remotely monitor the system – which is possible with professionals (who also do the monitoring for you) – is vital if you want to achieve the perfect time-lapse edit.

But what good is remote access to a system if you cannot view the images in live time? Thanks to Time-Lapse Systems’ Interactive Remote Imaging System, you can.

This site monitoring and management solution enables anyone to have a view on their project from wherever they are in the world, at any time – so long as you allow them access.

Ultra HD images populate to a custom online viewer at set 15-minute intervals, which can be panned, zoomed and saved for use. E-mail clients, stakeholders and staff members directly and access a full, time-stamped and date-ordered archive without leaving the viewer window.

This is where the true benefits of time-lapse camera systems come into play. Firstly, live images mean access to your site no matter where you are or what device you are using. iRis is fully functional on mobile as well as desktop browsers, so you never miss a thing.

Secondly, for a truly stunning final edit, you need to make sure nothing is missed. Being able to control and monitor the camera system from afar, Time-Lapse Systems can make sure that it is working correctly and with no interruptions. In-the-box cameras and even some other companies have no way of tracking their systems. That creates a ‘hope-for-the-best’ situation, because at the end of your two-year, three-year or even longer build you might find the camera has malfunctioned and you have lost everything.

In addition to the constant monitoring of our systems, every image we capture is backed-up securely and remotely to a protected server.

And our edit team are specialists, with years of experience cutting, re-ordering and producing videos of every genre. But when it comes to time-lapse, they come into their own. Dealing with tens-of-thousands of images per project is a daunting task, but we have the best techniques – perfected with years of experience – meaning you are guaranteed the best time-lapse video at the end of the project.

Please get in touch with one of the team here at Time-Lapse Systems if you would like to discuss how remote site monitoring and a time-lapse video might benefit your business.
