As one of the world’s leading specialists, Time-Lapse Systems have provided bespoke ultra-high definition time-lapse and site monitoring solutions on a multitude of education projects since 2007.

time-lapsing  for the education sector

We are proud to have been selected to capture a broad range of education sector builds and work for over two decades. The breadth of projects we cover is huge, and our experienced in-house engineers and editors are well-versed in providing tailored custom solutions even when faced with the most challenging brief.

With education time-lapse and site monitoring projects running across the UK, we’ve installed our camera systems in London, the Midlands, Liverpool, and all the way up to the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. We’ve captured for prestigious universities such as Oxford and Cambridge, as well as for numerous local authorities including Kent, Cambridgeshire, and Hampshire County Councils. Large, reputable construction companies such as BAM, Kier, and Skanska use our expertise and services to ensure high-quality documentation of their myriad of education build projects.

MORE TIME-LAPSING FOR SCHOOLS.

We’ve covered secondary school builds including the £30 million Mill Chase Academy for Hampshire County Council with Kier Construction. Whilst at Heath Park School, Wolverhampton we time-lapsed the build of the standalone Arts Media & Sixth Form College with Savesta Construction Ltd in partnership with Central Learning Partnership Trust. We work with mainstream schools and special educational needs schools comparably. We’ve installed a dual-camera system set up to photograph construction for Eurban at Northstowe Education Campus Special Educational Needs School. Whilst we’ve also worked with Kent County Council and BAM on Ridgeview School SEN school. As well as the public sector, we also provide time-lapse for the private education sector. We’ve documented the construction of the sports hall at King’s College School, Wimbledon for Knight Harwood, and captured another sports hall build for Danes Hill School in Surrey. Whilst TVS Group have showcased their work at Bryanston School, the co-educational independent boarding and day school in Dorset through time-lapse video. In Oxford, we’ve covered two separate projects for the co-ed independent school St. Clare’s College.

TIME-LAPSE AND SITE MONITORING.

We have considerable experience covering everything from large-scale new build projects such as South Essex College Thurrock Campus, through to work on ‘live’ university and school sites such as the historic new library extension at The Queen’s College, Oxford. As well as dealing directly with schools, colleges, and universities, we also work with local authorities and the private education sector. Our education construction client base is wide-ranging, from multi-national developers such as VINCI delivering large scale, long term projects, to modular construction companies such as Modulek incorporating off-site additional classroom space, to specialist education architects redeveloping existing structures. With remote working coming to the fore, the secure site-monitoring function of our time-lapse capture has increased further in popularity. This capability means that all builds can be remotely and meticulously managed by contractors, architects, and engineers to aid with a safe, uninterrupted delivery.

PRIMARY SCHOOL PROJECTS.

Schools and local authorities often use our time-lapse photography and video edits to help promote build projects and to visually communicate progress with members of their communities. Therefore, we’ve been busy working throughout the British Isles to capture a diverse range of builds for primary schools and education settings. We’ve been to the Outer Hebrides, Scotland to cover the construction of the Stornoway Nicholson Institute, one of the flagship Western Isles Schools projects. We’ve also covered construction at Bevington Primary School in central London. Whilst for Cambridge County Council we’ve time-lapsed developments at Hardwick and Cambourne Community Primary School with Kier and Thorndown Primary School at St Ives with Atkins Global. At Kingsbrook Academy in Aylesbury, we’ve been busy documenting the construction of a primary school and nursery. As schools incorporate playgrounds and useful external spaces into their sites, we have documented the construction of numerous outdoor play areas and external works. In the London Borough of Haringey, we time-lapsed the development of a newly designed outdoor play area as well as the extension build at St Mary’s Primary for T&B contractors.

Oxbridge

oxford & cambridge

We are privileged to have worked with Britain’s most prestigious universities on numerous occasions. We have long standing relationships with both Oxford and Cambridge, providing sustained high-quality time-lapse capture for a variety of projects.
At the University of Cambridge we’ve reported on the state-of-the-art laboratory facility Project Capella, the £22.8m Chemistry of Health building and worked alongside Gilbert Ash for another recent build project. Whilst for the University of Oxford we’ve captured the Northgate project at Jesus College for BAM, and the historic new library extension at The Queen’s College designed by Rick Mather Architects.

EDUCATION DEMOLITION TIME-LAPSE.

As education settings are often in built-up areas, or on a limited footprint, redevelopment construction normally means a redundant structure needs to be demolished first. We regularly provide short-term high-quality time-lapse capture of demolition work as schools, further and higher education establishments develop. We have documented a complex demolition including façade retention for Connell Brothers at Manchester Metropolitan University. We have also captured clearance projects such as the demolition of former Unite Student accommodation at Birmingham City University to make way for HS2. Demolition of education buildings can be complex as they are often on a ‘live’ site with staff and pupils moving around. Site monitoring and full documentation of the demolition process helps ensure safety procedures are always complied with.

FURTHER EDUCATION CONSTRUCTION.

We’re pleased to have captured the construction of various further education builds, including sixth form institutes and colleges. At the Thurrock campus of South Essex College in Grays, our two camera systems covered each phase of the £45 million improvements undertaken by contractor Skanska. After two years of construction, we produced a video edit for the college to use across their websites and media platforms. Whilst at Solihull Sixth Form College we provided short-term capture for the rapid build of the stand-a-lone modular Sixth Form block for Modulek. As with most of our footage, this was edited by our specialist in-house editors into a time-lapse video for promotional purposes. We’ve worked in the heart of the capital, on a challenging city centre site for the London Screen Academy (Working Title School) and Pristine London. Created by ESFA and LocatED this film production Free School now provides sixth form places in Islington. As our portfolio indicates, we can provide high-quality, well-managed time-lapse solutions for a range of projects, as our bespoke time-lapse camera systems can be adapted to get the best results for each client whatever the environment or location.

HIGHER EDUCATION BUILDS.

We are used to covering a wide variety of further and higher education builds, right through to university construction. We are currently capturing the build of a world-class new home for the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology in Kings Cross, London for ISG as part of the 1.25 bn Transforming UCL programme. We have provided sustained high-quality time-lapse capture for other prestigious education builds, such as the multi-million-pound new City Law School on Sebastian Street for City, University of London, at King’s College, London and with Eurban at Manchester Metropolitan University. For the University of Winchester, we have documented the build of their hi-tec West Downs development. We also have a long-standing relationship with the University of Staffordshire and recently captured the construction of their new Catalyst building. As well as long term construction time-lapse we have also provided specialised short term time-lapse capture for university institutions. For example, rapid capture was required for the installation of the Chiller Project onto the roof at King’s College, London.

Campus Life

STUDENT ACCOMMODATION

We have been time-lapsing the construction of student accommodation in a variety of locations. We’ve captured the construction of Norton Street student accommodation for Create Construction – a £35m addition to Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter. Whilst we’ve also worked on Tara House, another central Liverpool-based student residential development. Other projects include: The Tramshed – luxury student housing in Preston for Moorfield Group; Dunblane Street – a student accommodation build in Glasgow by GRAHAM Construction and two separate developments in Bournemouth for Global Student Accommodation.
