125 Deansgate nearing completion following two years of building work

News Construction of 125 Deansgate revealed through our time-lapse video

8 July 2020 Kate

Our time-lapse videos at 125 Deansgate document the development and construction of one of the most impressive new office spaces in Manchester.

Situated in the heart of the city, on one of Manchester’s best-known thoroughfares, the 117,000 sq ft development is now an iconic 12-storey, column-free high rise for office and retail use.

At the very start of the project in 2016, our highly trained time-lapse engineers were tasked with the challenge of locating the best possible camera position in this tight city-centre space. The angle of capture had to cover the full range of site works, from the demolition of the previous building, Lincoln House, to the construction of the new contemporary, BREEAM-accredited modern structure.

Through our strategically positioned camera system, we were able to capture this prestigious £70 million redevelopment, including the demolition work, groundworks, construction of the concrete core and the build of the now distinctive office block.

This also allowed it to be used effectively throughout as a site monitoring tool for the complex city-centre site, with our custom-built viewing platform providing a live, remote view of construction works as they took place.

With the entire footprint utilised by the construction itself, a lack of on-site material storage facilities meant that, for example, the steel had to be erected quickly by a one tower crane. Through our capture and site monitoring capabilities, specific elements of construction such as this could be remotely managed and monitored by the contractors, project managers, developers, and architects.

And this was not only utilised by key stakeholders, but also for marketing purposes. Our viewing portal was embedded onto a dedicated page on the 125 Deansgate website, with a direct link from the homepage allowing anyone interested to instantly access the build progress.

During the three-year period of capture, 125 Deansgate also requested two specific time-lapse videos highlighting key milestones in the project. One captured the demolition of Lincoln House, below, which featured on the Manchester Evening News website.

The second, at the top of the page, goes on to feature progress mid-way through construction of the new build.

With each project we undertake needing a unique and bespoke approach, we are always keen to work with our clients to fit any requirements. In this particular case, 125 Deansgate actively used these video edits and stills for marketing purposes, regularly sharing and interacting on dedicated Twitter, Facebook, and other channels, to create interest and a ‘buzz’ in the works taking place.

We are pleased to have been involved in such a landmark project in the city and continue to capture the growth of the Northern Powerhouse through other projects in Manchester & the wider North West.

The consistent, high-quality capture that we have produced for 125 Deansgate is what we are known for, reaffirming Time-Lapse Systems‘ status as one of the leading providers of time-lapse solutions for the UK’s construction industry.
