News New City Law School Building Revealed Through our Time-Lapse
The £65 million build, delivered by BAM Construction, was designed by Wilkinson Eyre and developed with a focus on sustainability. The project required the integration of two existing buildings and the creation of a new seven-storey structure, linked by a central atrium that connects four separate elements of the development.
The final building has achieved BREEAM accreditation, reflecting its sustainable design and construction. By continuously capturing progress, our footage provides a lasting record of this environmentally responsible addition to City, University of London’s estate.
Supporting Construction with Site Monitoring
Alongside the production of a final time-lapse film, our systems were used as an important site monitoring tool.
We always provide our custom-built online viewing platform to our clients, enabling authorised stakeholders to access live and historic imagery at any time. This service allowed project managers, contractors, architects, and the client team to view progress remotely, reducing the need for on-site visits and supporting decision-making throughout the build.
For a complex project such as Sebastian Street, with its urban constraints and phased construction, remote monitoring offered particular value. It ensured stakeholders could oversee key operations, check progress against schedules, and share accurate updates with wider teams.
A Sustainable and Complex Urban Build
The City Law School project presented the challenges typical of central London construction, including restricted access, neighbouring buildings, and the need to maintain safety and efficiency in a limited footprint.
Despite these constraints, the scheme successfully delivered a high-quality facility with sustainable features. Green roofs provide natural insulation and biodiversity benefits, while rooftop solar panels contribute to the building’s energy efficiency. These features reflect the university’s commitment to sustainable development and align with wider industry standards.
Our time-lapse cameras documented the installation and completion of these elements, ensuring they were highlighted in both internal reporting and public-facing films.
Time-LapseTo Show Project Milestones
Over the four years of construction, Time-Lapse Systems was commissioned to produce several specific edits from the continuous capture:
-
Topping-out ceremony film (February 2019): A time-lapse sequence highlighting progress to date was presented at the event, celebrating the completion of the building’s structure.
-
Completion film: A dedicated edit was produced to mark the end of construction and handover of the building.
-
Promotional film: A final video was created to showcase the finished centre, including its exterior and interior features, for use across marketing and communications.
These milestone films were tailored to the needs of City, University of London and were designed for presentation at events, internal briefings, and public sharing.
Marketing and Communications Value
Beyond their use as project documentation, our work has also been used as an important tool for marketing and engagement. City, University of London used the videos to communicate progress with students, staff, alumni, and prospective applicants.
Edited sequences were shared on social media platforms including Twitter and Facebook, where they attracted attention and engagement from both the university community and the wider public. They were also used as part of broader marketing campaigns to highlight the investment being made in student facilities.
By combining a clear visual narrative with high-quality production, the time-lapse films continue to support City Law School’s profile as a leading provider of legal education in the UK.
