News The Redevelopment of Cardiff
Cardiff, Wales capital is undergoing significant regeneration and redevelopment. We, at Time-Lapse Systems are proud to have our camera systems installed in the city to help capture some of these changes.
Cardiff’s Garden City Development
Plasdwr is the major large new development in Cardiff, creating 7000 new homes on 900 acres. The Garden City is being developed in phases, with extensive facilities including one secondary and four primary schools, a centre with shops, bars and restaurants, plus parks, playing fields, and healthcare services. We are privileged that our time-lapse camera system has been installed to capture construction at the site.
Central Quay scheme
Another significant development in the city is the Central Quay scheme involving the creation of a new waterfront neighbourhood. This includes offices, luxury riverfront apartments, a university campus, bars and restaurants. One of the UK’s largest regeneration projects is underway at Central Quays, with the redevelopment of the former Brains Brewery site. The significant architectural site is being transformed into offices, residential and leisure space including a seven-storey hotel.
Dumballs Road
Further major regeneration is set for a large brownfield site on Dumballs Road in the heart of Cardiff. The development of the 40-acre site could eventually create up to 2500 new homes alongside 54,000 square metres of business space. Work is currently underway to develop a £25m apartment for rent scheme, including communal areas, a fitness centre plus retail space on the former brownfield site.
Growing the Capital Quarter
Cardiff’s Capital Quarter is a 10-acre mixed-use city centre development. A £52 million residential tower at Tyndall Street in the Capital Quarter is being developed. The Tyndall Street, a 27-floor residential development consists of 307 apartments and a rooftop residents’ clubhouse overlooking the bay. This development will increase Cardiff’s offering of high-quality accommodation for the private rented sector.
John Street Development
Work is already underway on a large development at John Street in Cardiff. The site, which is adjacent to the Capital Quarter will include high spec grade A offices. Further developments on the site will include a new hotel as part of a 27-storey building.
Croft Street, Plasnewydd
Another forward-thinking development that we are documenting in the capital is for AECOM. We’re proud to be reporting on the installation of energy-efficient factory-built modular homes at Crofts Street, Plasnewydd. The nine, two-bedroom new homes are being created from a highly energy-efficient modular system, manufactured off-site to help reduce the build programme time and on-site activity.
Cardiff University
Students are an important part of city life and Cardiff University is investing in and upgrading its campus. The university is undertaking its biggest campus upgrade for a generation, investing £600m. The new iconic building for the Centre for Student Life is part of this major investment, providing an enhanced space for support services.
Across the Welsh capital, change and regeneration are occurring to increase the city’s pull as an attractive destination for leisure, homes, work, study, and investment. We at Time-Lapse Systems are proud to be working in Cardiff and look forward to continuing to document developments, delivering the highest quality capture for a variety of clients and projects.
