News The Twelve Days of Time-Lapse

19 December 2014 Daniel Curtis

This time in a week you will probably be recovering from the day of over-indulgence before. And that also means we will be into the second of the “Twelve Days of Christmas”.

To celebrate the classic Christmas tune we have searched high and low for some good, bad and quirky time-lapse videos and can now present…

The Twelve Days of Time-Lapse

Twelve Drummers Drumming

If you have speakers switched on or headphones in, you might want to turn down the volume a little. Twelve drummers we have not… but we do have hundreds of drum kits!

Eleven Pipers Piping

Thanks to the song it is two ‘musical numbers’ in a row. And if you ever needed proof that you can find anything on the Internet, this gem of a video will settle those queries. Yes, it is a three-minute clip of someone servicing a flute.

Ten Lords-a-Leaping

Would you believe it, but finding a time-lapse sequence of 10 lords prancing about was just as difficult as 11 pipers! But we do have a fitting substitute. Think back to the Olympics in 2012 or any major athletics event, and you probably will not remember how any of the equipment was put in its place. The video we have found shows the detailed process of setting up a high jump – and of course a time-lapse of an athlete ‘leaping’.(Tenuous, we know!

Nine Ladies Dancing

The difficulty in finding a fitting video of dancing is that time-lapse is a reduction of time; long periods of activity are sped up into a fraction of real-time. And that is why this video is so impressive. The subject dances in slow motion, so, when the sequence is sped up, she appears to dance at normal speed with the bustling world around her moving quickly. Hats off to you, Anni Sultany – a very inventive and clever performance!

Eight Maids-a-Milking

What would time-lapse be without technology? And in the same sense, how would the world’s demand for milk be fulfilled without the help of robotic input? And once again the Internet throws up the bizarre: a time-lapse of cows being milked.

Seven Swans-a-Swimming

It seems fitting to take a look back at the subject of a previous blog in our “Twelve Days of Time-Lapse”, so we are getting a little creative with this next one. Hyperrealistic art is as popular as ever – and this swan drawing is certainly up there amongst the very best!

Six Geese-a-Laying

We have actually found a video of six geese (kind of). If you count one goose and five un-hatched goslings, then that is this part of the Christmas carol wrapped up.

Five Gold Rings

Blink and you will miss this one. What you need to look out for occurs about three seconds in, just to the right of centre. Ever seen a meteor explode before? You have now. And for the sake of clarity (and to explain another tenuous link) – the effect looks a little like a gold ring.

Four Calling Birds

After that little interruption, we are back to our feathered friends. And, unbelievably, there is actually a time-lapse sequence of a colly bird.

Three French Hens

For those of you who find chicks “adorable”, this video might be for you – a time-lapse of a chick hatching. Who knew there were so many poultry-related time-lapses out there?

Two Turtle Doves

How many birds did the “true love” want to gift? Swans, geese, blackbirds, French hens, turtle doves and the upcoming partridge – that is a bit excessive, is it not? Well, we are bored with them anyway – so here is a turtles nest being uncovered.

A Partridge in a Pear Tree

Still not going back to birds. Instead, we are rounding off the “Twelve Days of Time-Lapse” with a calming video of trees – including a pear tree (it counts!)

Happy holidays!
