News Chessington Concert Time-Lapse
In 2010, we had the opportunity to document the construction of a large marquee for a concert at Chessington World of Adventures in Surrey. The project spanned several phases over two days, during which we deployed our fully manned time-lapse camera system to comprehensively capture the process.
The initial stage involved the construction of the marquee itself. To achieve the best coverage, we utilised our adaptable scaffolding system, which allowed us to position the camera in an ideal location. The scaffolding not only provided the necessary height and angle but also ensured that the camera was securely mounted, guaranteeing stability throughout the filming process. The camera recorded the incremental progress as the structure took shape, showing the methodical efforts of the construction team.
Once the marquee was completed, we transitioned to documenting its internal setup. A second time-lapse camera system was installed inside the structure to capture the assembly of lighting rigs, staging, and other concert-related installations. This phase was equally critical as it showcased the coordination required to transform the empty marquee into a fully functioning concert venue. The equipment used for this camera system was specifically chosen to operate efficiently in the indoor environment, capturing clear, consistent footage despite the challenges of limited space and ongoing activity.
The concert itself was also recorded, providing a visual narrative of the event. This portion of the documentation offered a perspective on the venue in its final, operational state, complete with performers, audience members, and the lighting and sound effects in action. Capturing the event added depth to the project, illustrating how the efforts of the construction and setup teams came together to create a memorable experience.
After the concert, our focus shifted to the de-rigging process. This involved filming the careful dismantling of the lighting, staging, and other interior elements, followed by the eventual breakdown of the marquee itself. The time-lapse footage of this stage highlighted the efficiency of the teams involved, as well as the temporary nature of the structure and its contents.

The time-lapse footage served as a comprehensive visual record of the event, from the marquee’s initial construction through to its final deconstruction. This project demonstrated the effectiveness of our time-lapse camera systems in capturing large-scale, dynamic events in a detailed and reliable manner. It also highlighted the importance of careful planning and execution in documenting such projects, ensuring that every stage was covered seamlessly.
