Documenting the core cities of the Northern Powerhouse

As the proposal to boost the economic profile and the ‘levelling up’ of the North of England continues, we have worked extensively in many of the key city regions.

From Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool to Hull, Newcastle and Sheffield, our leading time-lapse services have been utilised to capture developments in various sectors.

Demolition & construction, road, rail & other infrastructure, City of Culture ventures, student accommodation and brand new venues are just some of the varied projects to have benefited from our professional solutions.

Capturing pioneering progress in the North

We have been and are still involved with work that is at the heart of the government’s pioneering industrial strategy for the Northern Powerhouse.

Transport is an integral part of this vision, with a record £13billion to be injected into localised road & rail upgrades in towns and cities across the North West, North East, Yorkshire & Humber.

In Liverpool, we have worked on developments for Merseyrail in stations at Birkenhead, Orrell Park and Hamilton Square. These works span a range of different types of work, including platform fit-out, bridge installation and concourse improvements.

Across to the North East in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, we provided carefully monitored capture for a two-year period for a Highways England road scheme. Utilising a dual-camera system set-up, we captured the installation of a triple-decker roundabout at the A19/A1058 Coast Road Junction.

Our involvement with Highways England also extends to infrastructural developments in the Greater Manchester area. To capture large-scale bridge replacement works across the M56, near the city’s airport, we utilised short-term rapid time-lapse – one of our main specialisms.

In Manchester, we have also been busy capturing the regeneration and redevelopment of the city. We’ve been there as numerous buildings have been demolished to make way for new developments. Our Manchester-based time-lapse projects include the demolition of Lincoln House followed by the construction of £45million Grade A office space 125 Deansgate. As redevelopment continues at Castlefield we’ve documented the construction of The Trilogy. And as the NOMA innovation district expands, our time-lapse camera systems track the rise of PRS builds such as 4 Angel Gardens. Our camera systems are set up in Media City, capturing developments including work for Glenbrook. We have also captured several high-profile spaces within the New Bailey development in Salford. Our custom-built viewing platform and bespoke monitoring capabilities from our camera systems currently provide live online access to these sites as construction work continues.

Leeds is another core city which is home to large-scale construction developments, part of the push for growth in the Northern Powerhouse.

Several of our camera systems have and continue to capture for our long-term clients MEPC, as construction of their 192,000 sq st. expanding Leeds-based business quarter progresses.

We have successfully captured and provided fully post-produced time-lapse edits of 3, 4, 7, 8, and 10 Wellington Place, and we continue to have cameras installed in prime locations tracking developments at 11 & 12 Wellington Place.

Our camera systems also serve the visual needs of our clients, as they share progress on site via social media and other popular platforms, online and elsewhere.

Other work in our time-lapse construction portfolio includes student accommodation builds in Liverpool: Tara House, for Unite Students and Bowmer & Kirkland, and Norton Street, Create Construction’s £35million addition to the city’s Knowledge Quarter.

Cultural developments across the core cities

We have also been at the forefront of time-lapsing cultural investments in a number of Northern Powerhouse locations.

Just north of the Humber, Hull is home to a concentrated cluster of projects in our portfolio under the banner of UK City of Culture.

We installed camera systems at key locations across the title city, documenting regeneration and infrastructural works for local bodies at the famous Humber Street, at Hull Maritime Museum, Queen Victoria Square and Hull Paragon Interchange.

Two of our camera systems also provided two years of capture during the construction of Bonus Arena, a brand new event space which opened in 2018.

This major public realm commission, as well as the other City of Culture events we time-lapsed, were funded by Hull City Council as part of its £250m legacy plan.

Now an important cultural landmark at the heart of the city, our time-lapse images were utilised publicly by the council, main contractor BAM and the arena itself upon handover. We provided documentation for each phase of the build, while the now-iconic gold and silver-clad facade steadily took shape.

Our work on other vibrant cultural builds in the North of England includes one of our many Legoland time-lapse commissions of a Star Wars Miniland display in Manchester’s Trafford Centre.

Preservation of heritage buildings is also paramount in retaining a city’s character, and we are privileged to capture external and internal work of the “Our Town Hall” project as Manchester City Council renovates and restores the Grade 1 listed Town Hall and Albert Square for future generations to enjoy. Whilst for Connell Brothers we’ve documented a meticulous retainment of a Grade 2 listed stone façade during a demolition project for Manchester Metropolitan University.

We have also captured numerous leisure developments in Manchester, including the MediaCityUK canal-side venue The Alchemist in Salford Quays. Our camera systems have also been installed at the development of Tenpin at PrintWorks and for the internal fit-out at FoodWell at One New Bailey.

As the vision for the Northern Powerhouse continues to be realised across the North of England, we will be at the forefront of these key developments, delivering the highest quality capture for a wide variety of clients and projects.
