News Friday Feature – Hercules at RAF Lyneham
Our Friday Feature series takes a closer look at some of the videos that you can view on our YouTube and Vimeo channels.
Balfour Beatty/ Kier Partnership – RAF Lyneham
This week’s Friday Feature covers one of our many projects working with construction and civil engineering company, Kier.
Working alongside Balfour Beatty in a 50/50 JV called ‘Hercules’, Kier helped build a new Defence College of Technical Training on behalf of the Ministry of Defence.
Works on site at the RAF Lyneham airbase in Wiltshire, were comprised of several key junctures between June, 2014 and its overall completion in Autumn 2015.
Combining time-lapse and video, we captured parts of this redevelopment.
The full works from Hercules included:
- The construction of vital purpose-built facilities for all three British Armed Forces – the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force
- Upgrade and refurbishment of existing buildings, as well as construction of brand new single living accommodation and large outdoor training area for more than 1,100 trainees
- A public museum and new home for the Army’s Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
Another of our camera systems even covered developments off-site in Nottinghamshire, capturing the manufacture of the modular buildings by Caledonian Modular, based in Newark.
Multiple camera systems were essential to capture the full scale phases of this ‘herculean’ scheme, worth £121 million.
We have worked on several other projects for the MOD, one of which was based in Stafford at Beacon Barracks.
With 25 entries now available to view on our archive, this marks the end of the current run of Friday Features. Please keep checking back for future updates.
