What is the Laver Cup?

The Laver Cup is an international indoor hard-court men’s tennis competition. This annual tournament is comprised of two teams, Europe and the World. Each team of six prestigious players competes for the chance to win the iconic cup, created to honour Australian tennis hero Rod Laver. The captain is able to choose three players and the remaining three players qualify based on their ATP singles ranking following the Championships. The weekend event consists of five sessions played over three days.

The 2022 Laver Cup was held in London at the O2 arena from the 23rd– 25th September. The O2 is no stranger to tennis, hosting the ATP World Tour Finals since 2009. The O2 has welcomed over 70,000,000 people to many different sporting, music, and entertainment events since its opening 16 years ago, making it the perfect venue for such an important event in tennis fans’ calendars.

Time-Lapse of the Laver Cup

We were asked to install two of our above ultra HD time-lapse systems for the 2022 Laver Cup at the O2 Arena. Our external camera captured the temporary practice court and the public screening area builds and its later disassembly, whilst our internal camera covered the court transformations for matches. The internal camera was deployed for two weeks capturing the ground preparation, court laying, markings, the matches themselves, crowds filling and dispersing before and after each session and the removal of the courts leaving the O2 ready for its next major event.

Time-Lapse Fixing Solutions

Our highly skilled and experienced team of engineers always endeavour to use the most efficient and effective fixing solutions for clients. For this project, our team utilised an elevated position to perfectly capture the external practice court and thoroughfare of the spectators. For the internal system, the technicians used a camera equipment gantry to provide an excellent vantage over the stadium.

At Time-Lapse Systems we have worked on a range of different projects over a range of different sectors for both short-term and long-term jobs. We were incredibly proud to work on such a prestigious project in partnership with Big Plus and Tennis Australia. Interestingly this tournament served to be Roger Federer’s final competitive match before retiring. The 20 Grand Slam Winner shared the doubles court with Rafael Nadal for the final match, which we were lucky enough to document.
