News Time-Lapse of Enson Works
We are pleased to be working with Inspired Film and Video and the City of Stoke-on-Trent Council on a significant time-lapse project documenting the demolition of the former Enson Works in Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent. This project is a vital part of the city’s efforts to preserve its historic pottery heritage while creating a new training complex on the site. The area holds an important place in Stoke-on-Trent’s history as the heart of the city’s renowned pottery industry.
The former Enson Works site includes four Grade II listed bottle ovens, which are integral to the city’s industrial past. These distinctively shaped structures, enclosed within the factory walls, are recognised as an iconic part of Britain’s pottery heritage. The project involves demolishing the old factory buildings surrounding the ovens, making the ovens visible and accessible as part of the redevelopment process.
Our role in this project is to provide a time-lapse camera system to document each stage of the demolition and rebuilding process. Once the surrounding factory buildings are taken down, our system will capture the bottle ovens as they are revealed to the camera’s line of sight. This phase of the project will showcase the transformation of the site and the careful removal of structures that have obscured the ovens for years.
Following the demolition, the project will move into the construction phase, during which a new training complex will be built around the historic ovens. Our time-lapse system will continue to document this phase, capturing the progress of the redevelopment as the site is transformed into a space that honours its industrial past while serving a new purpose for the local community. By recording the entire process, we will provide a visual archive of this important moment in the area’s history.
The time-lapse project is expected to run for approximately nine months, covering both the demolition and rebuilding stages. Our high-definition cameras are designed to deliver clear, detailed footage, ensuring that every stage of the process is captured comprehensively. This footage will not only serve as a record of the redevelopment but also provide valuable material for both Inspired Film and Video and the City of Stoke-on-Trent Council to use in their future communications and educational initiatives.
As always, we have customised our time-lapse cameras to meet the specific needs of this project. Our team has carefully planned the positioning of the cameras to provide an optimal view of the site, ensuring that the key stages of the work are fully visible. Additionally, our equipment has been configured to operate reliably throughout the nine-month period, regardless of weather conditions or other environmental factors.
This project highlights the versatility and value of time-lapse technology in documenting large-scale transformations. By providing a continuous visual record of the work, our system allows stakeholders to track progress, share updates, and celebrate milestones as they occur. At the same time, the footage will serve as an enduring record of how the site has evolved over time, preserving the story of the Enson Works and its iconic bottle ovens for future generations.
We are proud to play a part in this landmark project, which combines the preservation of Stoke-on-Trent’s industrial heritage with the development of new opportunities for the community. The careful balance of demolition and conservation required for this redevelopment makes it a significant undertaking, and our time-lapse system will ensure that every detail of this process is captured and preserved.
This collaboration with Inspired Film and Video and the City of Stoke-on-Trent Council is an exciting opportunity to document the transformation of a site with deep historical significance. By recording the demolition of the former Enson Works and the construction of the new training complex, we are helping to tell the story of an important chapter in the city’s history, celebrating its industrial past while looking forward to its future.
