News Friday Feature – Trafford Park

Our Friday Feature series takes a closer look at some of the videos that you can view on our YouTube and Vimeo channels.

As one of the leading providers of time-lapse and site monitoring, we have years of experience across many different genres and so our applications are incredibly varied.

Our Friday Feature is the ideal space in which to reflect on such diverse applications – this week on another utilities-based project in the North West, UK.

We built a bespoke time-lapse camera specifically tailored for a job at Trafford Park in Manchester, as part of major clean-up efforts carried out by water company, United Utilities.

Aiming to improve the water quality in the city’s Ship Canal, this extensive operation took over 12 months to complete. Our camera system was present to document the excavation of ground, enabling a chamber, kiosk, and shaft to be built 700 metres underground.

Such a feat was made possible by Gloria – a 140 tonne tunnel-boring machine – with a ‘mouth’ more than four metres wide, containing 80 ‘teeth’.

Our camera system covered Gloria’s arrival on site, requiring an adjustment due to this taking place at night. We also implemented bursts of rapid capture to successfully document periods of peak activity.

This work is just one of a number of substantial projects we have been involved with for leading utility companies, including:

• FCC Environment and Lincolnshire County Council and continuous capture of the construction of Lincolnshire’s Energy from Waste Facility
• Oil and natural gas conglomerate Essar as they carried out vital replacement works at their Stanlow Refinery.
