News The Serpentine Pavilion 2021 Time-Lapse
Our time-lapse capture at The Serpentine Pavilion 2021 documents the development and construction of one of the most significant projects in London’s cultural calendar.
Situated in Kensington Gardens, the annual project is one of the top 10 most-visited architectural and design exhibitions in the world. Every year, an international architect is commissioned to design a temporary pavilion to sit in the Serpentine Gallery grounds, and in 2021 it was the turn of Johannesburg-based Counterspace.
The 2021 annual temporary structure was designed by Counterspace’s creative director, Sumayya Vally – the youngest architect to be commissioned for the internationally renowned architecture programme. Her aim was to create an airy, wall-less gathering place inspired by splicing together references from a diverse and often forgotten list of London’s community spaces (including the city’s first mosques, various cooperative bookshops, and the Notting Hill Carnival).
Our client, AECOM, was tasked with implementing the architect’s vision.
We were privileged to be allowed access to the iconic Serpentine Gallery, onto which we installed our camera system in the perfect location to capture this prestigious month-long build project.
The construction included the use of reclaimed steel, cork and plywood as its main structure, with micro-cement concrete coating creating the deceptive, distinct architecture – echoing shades and textures of the surrounding city buildings.
Due to the temporary nature of the build and the frame’s rapid erection, AECOM was relying on our in-house team to remotely monitor, manage and affect capture, rapidly bursting where appropriate for very best results.
Having captured four weeks of high-quality images of the build, we are creating a fully post-produced time-lapse edit to document the construction of this prestigious cultural project.
We are pleased to have been involved in the most recent of these landmark, annual projects and to be continuing our work with AECOM. As well as other high-profile cultural projects within London’s world-renowned creative scene.
This consistent, high-quality capture is what we at Time-Lapse Systems are known for, reaffirming our status as one of the leading providers of time-lapse solutions for the UK’s construction industry.
