Construction in Manchester 2022
Manchester as part of the Northern Powerhouse has been undergoing regeneration for the past decade. However, there appears to have been a recent surge in redevelopment plans, with the skyline set to change further in 2022.
The city continues to attract investment and redevelopment due to the region’s impressive economic growth. We at Time-Lapse Systems are privileged to have our camera systems installed across Manchester, helping to capture the changing cityscape for over 15 years
Here’s an update of recent and upcoming key projects in the city in 2022.
Residential Developments
Across the city, several high-quality residential schemes are underway as apartment and housing developments look set to continue as the primary driver of construction in the region.
We are delighted to be documenting the construction of 4 Angel Gardens, a 35-storey residential-led, mixed-use development of 466 luxury apartments right in the heart of the NOMA regeneration masterplan.
Our camera systems continue to report at MediaCityUK in Salford Quays, and this time for our longstanding client, Glenbrook to capture Plot D3, also known as High Definition. Here we are documenting the construction of 280 apartments across two towers complete with a communal garden and retail space.
At New Victoria, a prominently positioned £185m build to rent project scheme will deliver 520 apartments across two towers, an eight-storey office building plus new public realm, retail units, and gym.
Whilst the New Cross city centre neighbourhood, in between Ancoats and NOMA is currently home to several regeneration projects to upgrade the area. This includes New Cross Central, a new stylish residential development.
In Salford, next to Spinningfields we are delighted to continue to capture the transformation of the area and the numerous construction phases of New Bailey– a destination for residential, retail, and business.
Public Realm and Cultural Projects
We are privileged that our camera system has been installed in the Mayfield region of the city, an area undergoing intense regeneration and vying to become one of Manchester’s landmark destinations. Urban regeneration has already left its mark, with the repurposed Mayfield Depot now a huge events venue and the award-winning food and drink destination Escape to Freight Island pulling visitors to the area. However further significant redevelopment plans are underway including bringing the River Medlock back into use and the construction of Mayfield Park – a 6.5-acre site that will become the city centre’s first public park in 100 years.
Public realm work is also forging ahead elsewhere in the city centre, with the upgrade and transformation of Albert Square into a world-class events space. This renovation work is being undertaken in conjunction with the Our Town Hall heritage project by Manchester City Council to update and repurpose the 19th-century town hall building for future generations. Time-Lapse Systems are proud to be documenting the extensive work on this project and currently have numerous camera systems installed to capture the full range of works being undertaken externally and internally.
Manchester City Council is also involved in the development of The Factory, a new landmark arts venue and cultural space that will be the permanent home of the Manchester International Festival, which is currently under construction and set to be completed in 2022.
Hotel & Hospitality Developments
With the arrival of The Factory, the Soho House hospitality group has plans afoot close by in the emerging St Johns neighbourhood.
We’re delighted to be capturing the build of the distinctive Jenga-inspired Leonardo Hotel Piccadilly East by Capital and Centric. The £35 million hotel, due to open in 2022, is located in the heart of the emerging neighbourhood of Piccadilly East, directly behind Piccadilly Station. The hotel’s dramatic design incorporates greenery-laden planters, as well as a restaurant terrace area that connects with a new public square.
Other significant hotel projects are set to open in 2022, including the 206-bedroom Treehouse Hotel Manchester. This will form part of the £200 million redevelopment of the Renaissance Hotel site in Deansgate which will include a 27-storey leaning tower. This will also be part of the wider redevelopment of new retail space and public realm alongside the River Irwell.
